When I decided on a name for my bicycle company in 2012, my focus was solely on my great- grandfather -- two-time world champion, Bobby Walthour Sr. Our family named Dixie Flyer Bicycles to pay homage to a man that worked hard in the sport and found great success. However, the broader meaning of the word “Dixie,” evokes a painful and racist period of history that does not reflect who we are as business, people, community, and family.

After much personal reflection and honest, heartfelt conversations, we are in the process of changing the name of our company and brand to Velo Flyer Bicycles. In addition, I am looking into options for changing the label on currently-branded Dixie Flyers, for those that are interested.

Actions speak louder than words and this name change is just one way we are making sure we represent and reflect a safe, seen, and valued community. Sport has a big seat at the table in our country, and I am proud to say that Velo Flyer Bicycles mission will be to continue to promote an inclusive and diverse cycling culture.

Thanks for supporting this mission with us, and joining in the future growth of cycling as an attainable opportunity for everyone.

Be Well,

Bobby Walthour IV
